Allport Looks To Next Level |

| In the last few years Oswego County has had success at the higher levels of football. Jason Tanner of Fulton is at Syracuse. Jeff Stehle and Irvan Brown from Central Square are at Wisconsin and Pittsburgh respectively. Aaron Brown (also from Central Square) attended camp with the Buffalo Bills after a stellar career at the University of New Hampshire.
Ian Allport of Pulaski may just add to that list. He ended his junior year in 2006 with an abundance of honors including: All-State, All-CNY, All-cnyhsfootball.com and both sides of the ball at All-League. “Ian was doing well but he hurt his ankle in the second game” 4th year head coach Rich Murphy said. “He never came out of a game but it slowed him down and he didn’t really come around until near the end of the season”. Allports’ ankle is healed and he’s working hard to get ready for the 2007 season. “I’ve been going to Strength In Motion this summer to improve” Allport said. The 3-year starter goes 4 times a week for 2 – 2 ½ hours a session. The facility is run by former Syracuse University Strength & Conditioning coach Corey Parker. “Ian is working really hard this season. I expect him to be one of the most dominate players on both sides of the ball” Murphy said. That matches right up with what Allports goal is. “I want to make All-State on offense and defense,” he said. Allport has improved his exposure by attending several football camps this summer. He’s been to Temple and Syracuse. While at SU he talked with head coach Greg Robinson, Offensive Coordinator Brian White and O-line coach Chris Wiesehan about his chances of making the Orange. They advised him that if he dropped some weight and added some core and leg strength then their might be a place for him at Syracuse. Allport took their advice to heart and has dropped 25 pounds to his current 295. The 6’5 lineman has increased his bench to 335 pounds and squats around 370 while running the 40 in the mid “5’s”. Murphy has had a number of Div I-AA programs inquiring about Allport. They include: Maine, Iona, Lafayette, Hofstra, UMass, Holy Cross, Colgate, Cornell, Brown, Stony Brook and others. Murphy should know Div I talent when he sees it. He played 3 years at Arizona State and earned a varsity letter before transferring to Cortland State his senior year. “As a freshman I saw that he could do all the things a freshman in college could do but he was a rollercoaster. I told him that if he worked hard he could get there”. College football wouldn’t be a totally new experience in the Allport household. Ians dad played QB at Davidson and his brother Alex suited up at St Lawrence. Murphy will look heavily to his captain in hopes of improving on last years 0-9 record. “We want to improve on last year” he stated “We were in 3-4 games that we could have won” “One of Ians strengths is his leadership. He leads others in the weight room and is the first one at agility and skills drills”. Murphy said 2007 should be a big year for Ian Allport. There will certainly be a lot of college recruiters following his progress and perhaps one of them will be signing him on National Signing Day in 2008. Then we’ll be adding his name to the big time along side of Tanner, Stehle and Brown. |
