| 2007 Central Square RedHawks The RedHawks goal for 2007 is to return to the playoffs. With 20 career victories under his belt 8th year head coach Bert Conklin hasn’t seen a winning season since 2002 (5-3) but 3 of the last 4 years have only been a win or two away from the post season. That could change in 2007 if Junior quarterback Nick Moran continues his progress. Moran would have been backing up Matt Mara last season but the veteran decided to concentrate on baseball paving the way for the untested sophomore. Moran didn’t waste the opportunity leading the team in rushing (928 yards), passing (222 yds), all-purpose, total offense and scoring (86 pts on 14 TDs & 2 xpts). “For a sophomore his stats are good for the league we play in.” Conklin said. “He had an outstanding season and was well respected by the coaches in our league”. The RedHawks don’t plan on making any major changes to their offense this season. They’ll once again employee the veer split-back. “We’re an option football team and we have a good option Qb returning” Conklin said. Central Square will have to adjust to the loss of 21 seniors from 2006. Their roster is down to 38 from 49 bodies a year ago. Offense keys will be mainly in the strength of the line. Seniors Garrett Herholtz (6’0 230), Marcus Meyers (6’1 255) and Kyle Williams (6’0 218) will provide protection while tightends Chad Townsend (Sr, 6’2 198) and Dennis Timmons (Sr, 6’0 208) provide the targets. On the defensive side of the coin the same core players will be relied heavily on. Herholtz, Meyers, Williams and Townsend will man the trench while returning All-League linebacker Timmons will roam the backsides. They will once again use the 3-5 and 4-0 defenses in addition to adding the 3-5-3 odd stack this fall. With 2 wins in their last 3 games of 2006 the RedHawks are looking to continue that success in Class AA-2. “We want to be competitive in our league” Conklin said. “We just want to improve on last year and make it back to the playoffs.” 2007 Roster |
